Share Your Struggle 2021 is a public photo competition in India, encouraging the public to upload photographs and videos related to various struggles to Wikimedia Commons. The goal of the project is to improve coverage of free usable media files related to various struggles, such as, natural disasters, health crises such as COVID-19 pandemic, social movements, conflict-torn areas, and any other humanitarian crises. It was not only to document crises, but also humanitarian efforts and acts of kindness that happen during such crises.

The first iteration of the campaign ran from 15 August 2021 and ran until 15 September, and gathered 600+ images and 25+ videos from 30+ participants. Apart from a CentralNotice banner across Wikimedia platforms, focused outreach efforts helped to engage professional photographers, photojournalists and social activist organizations such as Lok Sangharsh Morcha and Narmada Navnirman Abhiyan.

Five of the top ten images are related to the 2020-2021 Indian farmers’ protest, which has been going on for over one year at various borders of the national capital, Delhi. Three images are related to the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown. Three photographers (JK Photography, Ravan Khosa and TAPAS KUMAR HALDER) have two photographs each in the top ten images.

Here are the winning photographs from the campaign:

Additionally, User:Goutam1962 uploaded 173 images and won the prize for uploading most in-scope images during the campaign.
