We, Wikimedians of Japan User Group, participated in the Open-Source Conference 2024Kyoto with a booth and a presentation, following the Open-Source Conference 2024Nagoya in May.

More than 40 companies, organizations, and open-source communities interested in open-source exhibited at the Kyoto Research Park, where five tracks of seminars were set up for exhibitors to make their presentations.

At the Wikimedians of Japan User Group, I (VZP10224) gave a presentation titled “First Steps to Edit Wikidata” as in the previous meeting in Nagoya, explaining Wikidata, introducing actual editing screens, and giving an overview of Wikidata data-structure using Wikidata Graph Builder.

At the beginning of the presentation, we introduced our group, the Wikimedia movement, and the current direction of the Wikimedia Foundation and its activities, collective intelligence, which is not limited to Wikipedia.

Many of the visitors were engineers, and we are proud to say that they were interested in how Wikidata holds data, which is different from a typical relational database for engineers.

We will continue to conduct outreach activities by exhibiting at open-source conferences and other venues where people who are interested in Wikimedia but have not been able to reach out.

We plan to exhibit at the Open-Source Conference 2024Hiroshima in September and the Open-Source Conference 2024Tokyto/Fall in October.
