As you know, Wikipedians have interesting interests. Some Wikipedians photograph manhole covers (A fascinating journey: 10 years of manhole cover photography by our community), while others photograph street signs and upload them to Wikimedia Commons.

On Saturday, July 6, 2024, Wikipedians in Istanbul got together and walked around the streets of Istanbul’s Kadıköy, Fatih and Bakırköy districts, photographing the signs of streets with a notable name.

Before the event, User:Adem, who organized the event, distributed maps to the participants, marking which street signs should be photographed. Wikipedists then took the maps in groups and set off.

7 people participated in the event, which lasted 5 hours and more than 100 photos were taken and uploaded to Category:Route created: Streets of Istanbul on Wikimedia Commons. Some of these photos were also added to the relevant Wikipedia articles.

Revitalizing the community spirit in Turkish Wikipedia, reducing anonymity, creating a network among users and improving their contributions were also discussed during the event. Afterwards, the group had dinner together.
