The Africa Wiki Women Leadership and Mentorship Fellowship (LMF) Program is designed to give African women the support, skills, and confidence they need to step into leadership roles within the Wikimedia Movement. Through this program, run by Africa Wiki Women, we create a space where women can grow, lead, and make meaningful contributions to gender equality within Wikimedia.
Vision: Empowering African Women in Wikimedia
Our vision is to cultivate a supportive community where African women are empowered to assume leadership roles within the Wikimedia Movement. We aim to provide opportunities for learning, mentorship, and hands-on experience, enabling women to confidently contribute to Wikimedia while developing and enhancing their leadership skills.
Mission: Closing the Leadership Gap
Our mission is to bridge the gender gap in leadership within the Wikimedia community in Africa. This program aims to equip African women with the skills, knowledge, and experiences needed to lead impactful initiatives that foster change and promote diversity in the wikimedia ecosystem.
What We Aim to Do:
- Develop Leadership Skills: Equip participants with the necessary skills to lead effectively within the Africa Wiki Women community.
- Provide Mentorship: Pair participants with mentors who will guide and support them throughout their leadership journey.
- Increase Visibility: Ensure the contributions of these women are recognized and celebrated within the Wikimedia community.
- Gain Real-World Experience: Offer opportunities to collaborate on Wikimedia projects with individuals from diverse backgrounds and countries.
- Ensure Continuity: Provide ongoing support to women leaders, helping them remain active and continue growing within the Wikimedia Movement.
How the Program Works
For six months, fellows will take on various roles, including graphic design, Wiki training, administration, content creation, social media management, and project management. While acquiring these new skills, they will also gain visibility and become more actively engaged in the Wikimedia movement. The program provides them with hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of how Wikimedia groups and projects operate.
Meet Our Ambassadors: Leading Change Across Africa
This year, we have selected 8 fellows from across Africa who are already serving as Africa Wiki Women Ambassadors. These remarkable women are tasked with representing Africa Wiki Women in their countries and beyond, spearheading events and projects designed to bring more African women into the Wikimedia space. They will lead local and regional initiatives that advance the goals of Africa Wiki Women, ensuring that African women are fully represented within the global Wikimedia Movement. Below, we proudly present their profiles, highlighting their dedication to fostering inclusion, representation, and growth within the Wikimedia Movement.
As our Ambassadors take on these roles, they will drive meaningful conversations, projects, and collaborations across Africa. By equipping women with the tools and support they need to lead, we are not only strengthening the Wikimedia Movement but also shaping a future where African women take center stage in knowledge-sharing and representation.
