In Medan, SM4P Knowledge Transfer Activities Raise Awareness of False Information

The #SocialMedia4Peace (SM4P) training’s follow-up activity offers a knowledge-transfer session created especially for Wikimedia Indonesia-supported groups. This program is a tangible step toward increasing knowledge and proficiency in avoiding misinformation and disinformation, which is a major obstacle in the face of the deluge of information in the digital age.

During this exercise, trainers who had previously completed offline training in Medan, Makassar, or Yogyakarta came back to share their knowledge with locals. 21 individuals from a variety of backgrounds, including students, teachers, and private sector employees who use gadgets, were successfully drawn to the Wikimedia Medan Community in Medan itself. They are extremely susceptible to false, misleading, and malicious information.

The goal of this action is to establish an environment free from hate speech, misinformation, disinformation, and malinformation that promotes freedom of expression in both the real and virtual worlds. Participants are encouraged to comprehend the significance of preserving information accuracy and giving empathy first priority while voicing opinions through this knowledge transfer.

Facilitators are the trainers who have already received training. In addition to imparting knowledge, the trainers motivate participants to contribute to the effort to stop the spread of false information. Participants are encouraged to talk and participate in Q&A sessions that enhance their educational experience through an interactive approach.

In addition to giving the participants fresh perspectives, the activity’s outcomes strengthen their resolve to become change agents in their local communities. The participants were motivated to oppose the spread of damaging information in whatever form, support transparency, and exercise ethical freedom of expression.

Supported by the European Union and UNESCO, SM4P has grown to be a significant step in promoting social media peace and more positive interpersonal relationships.
