Empowering Open Educational Resources in Indonesia: A Collaborative Effort

Translate this post

In an effort to support the manifestation of open education in Indonesia, Creative Commons Indonesia (CCID) has initiated a series of strategic collaborations with key stakeholders in the country. These collaborative actions involve both online and offline activities.

The first collaborative action is a joint online campaign via Instagram. Using the hashtag #AksiKolaborasiSumberPembelajaranTerbuka (Collaborative Action for Open Education Resources), CCID and several institutions/organizations have been raising awareness about open educational resources and their key elements. This collaboration has yielded positive results, as indicated by the many supportive responses and constructive feedback from the followers.

The second collaborative action is an illustration competition for teaching materials. Through this collaboration, CCID and its partners organized a competition to create open educational materials for primary-level educators, which can later be reused. More detailed documentation can be found here.

The third collaborative action is a joint workshop on utilizing Wikimedia Commons as a source of open science teaching materials. As a result of this workshop, 36 participants successfully curated hundreds of works across four science subjects—mathematics, chemistry, physics, and biology—on Wikimedia Commons. These curated works can be reused by secondary school educators as ready-to-use teaching materials in classroom learning activities. The curated works by participants can be accessed on the following page.

In addition to the three collaborations, CCID also collaborates with several other institutions in various webinar activities and open education workshops. These various collaborative actions did not happen spontaneously. They were made possible by an earlier initiative, the OER Collaboration Forum, which took place in September 2024 in Jakarta. This event allowed CCID to reconnect with long-time partners while also establishing relationships with new partners who share a similar vision.

Thirteen organizations/institutions participated in this event to support CCID in building an open education ecosystem, including Wikimedia Indonesia, SEAMEO SEAMOLEC, The Asia Foundation, UNESCO Jakarta, the Library of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia, the Directorate of Multimedia Repository and Scientific Publishing, the National Research and Innovation Agency (RMPI BRIN), the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, the Gimpscape ID Community, SEAMEO QITEP in Science, BBGP West Java, the Indonesian Learning Teacher Community, FPPTI, and the 2030 Youth Force.

In addition to discussing plans for collaborative actions, the Collaboration Forum also addressed knowledge-sharing efforts from various organizations that have implemented open licenses on their platforms, discussions on mapping issues related to Creative Commons licenses and open educational resources, as well as potential solutions. CCID is always committed to expanding collaborations and fostering a long-term ecosystem for open education in Indonesia.
