The Wiki Indaba Hackathon Committee is inviting Wikimedia communities, affiliates, user groups, universities, technology communities, and other organisations across Africa to host satellite locations for the Wiki Indaba Hackathon 13th to 15th November 2026.
A Satellite location is a space that will allow participants who cannot attend the main event in person to gather locally, collaborate on projects, and connect with the wider hackathon online.
Who can host?
We are looking for hosts who can provide:
- A suitable space for participants for 2 to 3 days
- Reliable internet connectivity for 2 to 3 days
- Electricity or a power backup solution
- A local person who can coordinate the satellite location
- Basic coordination with the organising team
You do not need to have hosted a hackathon before. What matters most is having a suitable space, a reliable local contact, and an interest in supporting the Wikimedia technical community.
What will satellite hosts do?
Satellite hosts will:
- Coordinate the local venue and participants
- Ensure the space and connectivity are ready
- Stay in contact with the Satellite Coordination Lead
- Support participants during the hackathon
- Help connect the local group with the main hackathon programme
The organising team will provide further guidance and coordination support.
