Finishing Outreachy with Wikidata support for Wikiscore

And we finished our 32nd round of Outreachy! In this final part, we worked in the wish #8 of the Lusophone Technological Wishlist.

These last weeks we worked on an MVP to support Wikidata contests in WikiScore, Wikimedia Brasil’s content management tool. The first step was to understand how WikiScore works. After that, the first obstacle was to realize that PetScan queries can only retrieve data from Wikidata and not Test Wikidata, which would be useful for testing. It limited the capacity to simulate contests and create/modify or delete data in a test environment. Nonetheless, we still could develop this MVP based on reading data directly from Wikidata.

From there we started changing the commands to simulate the cron behavior and load all edits coming from Wikidata and compare them based on hash snaks values. This change requires adapting the Counter page to support a Wikidata contest; this first version just counts the total number of statements, references, and qualifiers modified/created by a user, and the total points are the sum of these values.

Also, on the Triage page, there was a change to show the snaks modified/created in an Edit and also show if there are any tags associated with it. All these changes can be found in a pull request created in the WikiScore repository. Below, we share a screenshot of the MVP.

Summarizing this whole internship, one of the most important lessons is the value of being part of the community. Participating is how you can identify all the opportunities to support translating, coding, proposing, or just identifying necessities.
