Let’s Connect Learning Clinic: Engaging with newcomers’ experiences in Wikimedia México

25 June @ 17:00 19:00 UTC

🌟What is this clinic about?

This session has a different touch from the usual ones, as in addition to being aimed at Wikimedians who are part of chapters or user groups, it will be open to people new to the movement. The goal is to learn, explore, and share strategies to attract, involve, and retain new people in the movement. We will hear from Wikimedia Mexico and their programs to attract young and new Wikimedians and hear from Wikimedia Foundation Staff member, Data Scientist – Irene Florez, who speak  in depth about community insights data that pertains to editors and contributors within the Latin American region.

📚 What should I prepare?

If you are a Wikimedian who is part of a chapter or user group, we invite you to think about the following questions:

  1. What strategies or procedures are you using to engage new people in your communities?
  2. How are you measuring the participation of these people?
  3. What challenges have you encountered in the process?

If you are new to the movement, we invite you to think about:

  1. What inspired you to become a Wikimedian?
  2. What challenges have you encountered within the Wikimedia movement as a newcomer?

🎯 What can you expect to learn?

You will be able to explore data and statistics regarding the participation and retention of new people in the Wikimedia movement.

You will be able to learn about strategies that other chapters and user groups are using to engage new people within local communities.

You will be able to meet new people who are part of the movement, their interests, and challenges.
