To commemorate the first year that Argentina participated in Wiki Loves Monuments, Wikimedia Argentina and Wikimedia Ibercoop held an official launch event on September 3rd, 2012, at the University of La Plata. At the event the University agreed to release many of its public domain works for use on Wikipedia and other free-knowledge projects. In Argentina, Wiki Loves Monuments was met with great enthusiasm, as 450 contestants contributed more than 6000 photographs.
Results are now in for the jury’s top picks. The photo that took first place is a stirring image featuring a stormy sky over the Cementerio Argentino de Puerto Darwin.  Other highlights include a sunset beyond the Argentine National Congress, a fire blazing before the National Flag Memorial in Rosario, and the Monument of Christ the Redeemer overlooking the Andes Mountains.
