The finalists from Wiki Loves Monuments 2012 in South Africa include these three lovely photos. In all, 128 photographers uploaded 1858 photos throughout September as part of the largest photo contest in the world.
The first place photo depicts the McClean Observatory in Cape Town, which houses the Victoria Telescope. The observatory, which was established in 1972, is an important facility for optical and infrared astronomy in the country. The second place image is of a pyramid structure before a mosaic walkway at the Donkin Reserve in Port Elizabeth. The pyramid is a memorial to the wife of Sir Rufane Donkin, who founded the city. The third place photo is of the Swartberg Pass, which runs through the Swartberg Mountains in the Western Cape province of South Africa.
