The Wikimedia Foundation would like to invite you to attend a livestream event with Katherine Maher and Jimmy Wales to announce the Wikimedian of the Year for 2020.

The Wikimedian of the Year is an annual tradition to honor the efforts of one of the movement’s exceptional contributors. Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales has announced the name of that person every year during his closing speech at Wikimania since 2011.

As with most things in 2020, the announcement will look different this year — happening virtually with Wikimedia members around the world, versus in-person in Bangkok.

But the important thing is that we still have the opportunity to celebrate the Wikimedian of the Year and celebrate their exceptional efforts.

So, who is the 2020 Wikimedian of the Year? Join us later this month to find out!

On October 15 at 16:00 UTC (9 AM PDT), we will host a live event with Wikimedia Foundation CEO Katherine Maher and Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales to announce the 2020 Wikimedian of the Year. You can watch live via YouTube and Facebook:

Add the event to your calendar and please share with your community. We look forward to seeing you soon!

If you can’t make it, don’t worry. The event will be recorded and uploaded to Commons.
