Diff is a community blog started by the Communications department at the Wikimedia Foundation in July of 2020 as a way to showcase news about the movement, by the movement. Diff builds on the experiences of the Wikimedia Blog and Wikimedia Space, and it includes their news archives. Anyone in the movement is welcome to submit a blog post in any language.
Since launching in July we’ve kept improving Diff. In December we enabled email subscriptions, and set up basic statistics to help measure impact. For the curious, in the first three months of 2021, we published 62 posts from over 40 authors. Diff saw 153,914 views from 114,494 visitors from 146 countries in the same time frame. Sixty percent of visitors come from outside the United States.
We’ve also been working to publish all major Foundation announcements on Diff, with the goal of making it a single, centralized place for the movement to follow Foundation news.
Up next for Diff is looking into a community event calendar solution (more info coming soon) and figuring out ways to integrate Diff into on-wiki spaces via RSS and notifications.
If you’re interested in getting involved in the editorial process, you are always welcome. Thanks to everyone who makes Diff happen and for our continued journey together.
