Wikimania 2021 – what an amazing few days that was! We had over 4,000 registered attendees, over five days filled with sessions hosted across multiple time zones, and volunteers and community members joining from all across the globe. So how was it for you? Please share your best moments during Wikimania by tweeting @Wikimania on Twitter and take our post-event survey below.
If you missed a session or just want to listen back again to something you really enjoyed, everything will be up on Wikimedia Commons soon. Keep your eye on the Wikimania 2021 category. If you’d like, many session recordings are already up on our YouTube channel. Each session has their etherpad notes linked in the Wikimania program, so you can check in to see questions and answers, useful info, and links related to each session. The final day saw some fascinating events around Covid-19 misinformation to long standing Wikimedians discussing the evolution of the movement and what the future may hold for Wikimedia communities. Everyone joined in during Song Division to write our very own Wikimania tune!
Don’t forget to catch up on all the winners for the Wikimedian of the year event. This year saw new categories added which resulted in seven winners from across the world and ranged from being part of the community from two to twenty years!
So what’s next for Wikimania? There were chats in the Unconference on where community members might like to see things go, as well as a session discussing future plans.
If you attended Wikimania, the Wikimedia Foundation would love to hear from you on how you thought the event was run as well as any feedback you have and lessons learnt for next year’s planning. You can fill out the survey, which will be open for the next few weeks. The survey is available in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Russian, and Spanish using the drop down link in the upper right corner. Planning will begin again for next year’s event in a few short months – see you next year at Wikimania 2022!
The survey is covered by the Wikimania 2021 Survey Privacy Statement.
