Wikimedia Argentina presents Wikipedia and LGBTT+ biographies, a guide with reflections and strategies for writing LGBTT+ biographies on Wikipedia. It gathers information about how to write about lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and travesti lives from a Human Right’s perspective.
It also offers strategies and tools for a non-discriminatory writing, which takes into account the singularities of LGBTT+ lives. For instance: what are the barriers we face when searching for reliable sources about LGBTT+ lives, which have been historically silenced?, is it possible to overcome these barriers?, how to narrate the life of a trans person of public relevance?, how to use the key concepts of the LGBTT+ community in a respectful way?
The guide Wikipedia and LGBTT+ biographies is a result of the collaboration between the trans activist Victoria Stéfano and the Wikimedia Argentina’s Cooperation and Inclusion Program. This guide is a synthesis of the information, strategies and reflections that emerged from a workshop named “Wikipedia and LGBTT+ biographies”.
From Wikimedia Argentina we want to invite the community of wikimedians to welcome and support LGBTT+ people on Wikipedia. The guide Wikipedia and LGBTT+ biographies is available in Spanish at Wikimedia Commons. If you are interested in learning and sharing strategies to reduce the gender gap on Wikipedia, this year Wikimedia Argentina will launch the second edition of the Wikipedia virtual course on gender.
