On 24 September 2023, Toumon Wikipedian Club Japan and Wikimedia User Group Malaysia jointly organised an editathon under the Wikimedia Japan-Malaysia Friendship project. They edited Wikipedia articles about their respective communities.
Venue
This was a hybrid editathon: some Japanese Wikimedians gathered at a workspace in Tokyo and some Malaysian Wikimedians gathered in Kuala Lumpur. In addition, all participants of the event connected via Zoom.
Timeline
From 15:00 to 15:15 JST, we introduced ourselves. Each participant showed their interests and explained what they would like to edit. From 15:15 to 17:30 JST, we focused on editing and some Wikimedians chatted on Zoom. After the editing, we presented our results.
Results
This editathon resulted in the creation of 24 new articles in the Japanese and Malay Wikipedias. A total of 13 existing articles were improved, while 6 files were uploaded to Wikimedia Commons.! You can check the result on Outreach Dashboard and read the messages from the participants on MetaWiki.
Acknowledgement
We would like to thank all participants and Junko Nakayama, a Wikimedia Foundation staff member, for supporting this event.
