Kicking Off Our First Edit-a-Thon Session
On September 27th, we, Wikimedians of Ethiopian User Group proudly hosted the first session of our edit-a-thon program. This event marked the beginning of a campaign designed to inspire collaboration, learning, and impactful contributions within our community. It was exciting to see many members from our user group come together to participate, share ideas, and familiarize themselves with the new edit-a-thon dashboard. And our dashboard can be found here: https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/courses/Wikimedia_User_Group_Ethiopia/Ethiopian_Wikipedia_Edit-a-thon
The primary focus of this inaugural session was to onboard our participants effectively. We walked through the edit-a-thon dashboard, introducing key features and tools that will support our contributors throughout the campaign. This step was crucial in ensuring everyone was aligned and comfortable with the platform, as the dashboard will play a significant role in tracking contributions, monitoring progress, and setting shared goals.
The goal of the edit-a-thon was to edit as many articles as possible in a limited amount of time and directly contributing to Wikipedia project. These contents aimed at translating existing articles into Ethiopian languages such as Amharic and also new English articles base on Ethiopia.
For members who were unable to join us live, the session was recorded and made available, ensuring that no one would miss out on the insights and practical steps shared during the event. This is part of our ongoing effort to make the program inclusive and accessible to all members, regardless of their availability.
In addition to technical onboarding, the session fostered engaging discussions and feedback exchanges. Participants provided valuable input on how we could refine and improve our editing and contributing processes. These conversations allowed us to identify opportunities for making our workflows smoother and more efficient while enhancing the overall experience for new and existing contributors.
As this was just the first step in our campaign, we are optimistic about what lies ahead. Future sessions will delve deeper into best practices for contributing high-quality content, collaboration strategies, and ways to leverage community resources.
This program is more than just editing articles—it’s about building a community of contributors who are passionate about sharing knowledge and making an impact. We look forward to seeing our user group thrive, and we welcome new members to join us as we continue to edit, learn, and grow together over the coming weeks.
Stay tuned for upcoming sessions and updates!
