Two thousand and twenty four, and a whole lot more
Another year of community blogging here on Diff is coming to an end. But fret not! A whole ‘nother year awaits us all. Diff is going into hibernation mode starting on December 18th. Posts submitted before then will be reviewed and scheduled for publication. After the 18th, we’ll all be sleeping.
We can still schedule posts to be published over the end-of-year break, but please get them to us by the 18th and let us know when you’d like them published if a specific date is needed.
We’ll be back on January 6th, 2025.
Many thanks
To all those who read the many interesting and collaborative posts here on Diff, our many thanks. We hope the work that goes into writing, editing, reviewing, adding photos – with proper attribution – and sharing with the wider community is as appreciated by you all as much as it is by us. We’ve laughed, cried, and been inspired by all the voices and efforts everyone has contributed to Diff.
A recap of Diff in 2024
What a year! Over 1,626 posts have been published on Diff this year. That’s nearly 200 more than last year! These posts come from over 563 authors in over 60 languages.
With all that hard work, come visitors! Diff saw 191,423 visitors (well, devices actually, we don’t track people). The gadgets and gizmos (and people using them) viewed the site a staggering 379,979 times.
We now have over a thousand people subscribed to receiving every blog post in their inbox. If you’d like to get Diff in your inbox, you can subscribe right here.

Some improvements to share
We also made some improvements and fixed a few bugs on Diff this year. You can read more in our previous update in May, but here’s a few additional notes.
- We updated our workflow for updates to our code. This allows us to more easily keep our public mirror of our code up-to-date.
- We kept the on-wiki archive of Diff titles updated this year. A great MediaWiki stress-test page with 7,884 list items!
- We fixed an issue with Wikimedia usernames not working with WordPress usernames. Now everyone can log in, regardless of script or characters.
- Fixed table of contents on our documentation pages so we can link directly to information about how Diff works.
Until next year
Again, thank you to everyone who has written, edited, read, shared, and given feedback. We appreciate you all and can’t wait to see where we go in 2025. Take care and we’ll see you back here on January 6th.
