Dagbani Wikimedians User Group launches the BACE Wiki Hub at Bagabaga College of Education in Tamale,Ghana

On a momentous day, July 30, 2023, the Bagabaga College of Education (BACE) in Tamale witnessed the dawn of a new era as the  BACE Wiki Hub officially launched. The event brought participants together with enthusiasm and a shared vision for promoting knowledge and collaboration within the community. 

The event kicked off with an introduction of the participants. The attendees exemplified the spirit of inclusivity and the willingness to work together towards a common goal. 

Dagbani Wikimedians User Group core team members who were in attendance were: Yussif Abdul Rasheed (User: Din-nani1), Musah Fuseini (User: Musahfm), Abdul-Rafiu Fuseini (User: Alhaji Darajaati), Hamidu Rukaya (User: Ruky Wunpini), Alhassan Abdul-Wadudu (User: Achiri Bitamsimli) and Fuseini Mugisu Suhuyini (User: Sir Amugi). 

Yussif Abdul-Rasheed, the project manager, shared the vision for the launch of the BACE Wiki Hub. With eloquence and passion, he highlighted the potential impact of the hub on revolutionising access to knowledge and empowering individuals to become active contributors to the world’s most used encyclopaedia. His speech caught a spark in the audience, inspiring them to embrace this collective journey of discovery and enlightenment.

With great pride and joy, the project manager inaugurated the BACE Wiki Hub, signifying the beginning of a new chapter in the region’s pursuit of knowledge. The symbolic act of unveiling the hub solidified its place as a centre to learn, collaborate, and engage with the community. 

The core team shared invaluable advice, drawing from their experience in the Wikipedia world and knowledge sharing. Their insights ranged from techniques for efficient article writing to fostering a respectful and inclusive online community. The audience embraced the pearls of wisdom and showed eagerness to enhance their skills as contributors.

Enlightening sessions by Alhaj Darajaati and Ruky Wunpini shed light on the principles, values, and ethics of using Wikipedia. Among them were the significance of verifiable information, neutrality, and the collaborative spirit. The participants gained a deeper understanding of their roles in maintaining the integrity of knowledge on Wikipedia and contributing positively to its growth.

Achiri Bitamsimli took the lead in guiding participants through the process of creating user accounts on Wikipedia. The hands-on workshop is crucial in enabling attendees to actively engage and contribute to the vast pool of knowledge on the platform. A sense of empowerment filled the room during user account creation, reinforcing the idea that anyone could be a part of this transformative journey.

The event concluded with heartfelt closing remarks from Sir Amugi, who expressed gratitude to all the participants, organisers, and contributors who made this day a resounding success. As the audience dispersed, a shared sense of purpose lingered, promising a bright future for the BACE Wiki Hub and the positive impact it will have on the community.
