The Gurene Wikimedia Community recently concluded a training workshop on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at the Ajumako campus. The workshop enhanced the knowledge and skills of our community members in adding citations to articles on Gurene Wikipedia and creating Wikidata items for indigenous names of people, villages, and towns in the Upper East region of Ghana.
The training workshop is an essential platform for our community members to gather, interact, and strengthen their understanding of critical aspects of contributing to Gurene Wikipedia and Wikidata. With 25 enthusiastic participants in attendance, the event fostered an environment for collaboration and knowledge sharing.
The training centred on adding citations to Wikipedia articles. Understanding the importance of reliable sources, participants learned how to use proper citation formats to enhance the credibility and authenticity of the content they contribute. This skill will undoubtedly lead to the creation of high-quality, well-referenced articles, empowering our community to share accurate information with the world.
One of the most crucial aspects of the training was the emphasis on creating Wikidata items for indigenous names of people, villages, and towns in the Upper East region of Ghana. By doing so, our community is taking significant strides in preserving our cultural heritage and ensuring that indigenous names are well-documented and accessible to a global audience.
The Gurene Names and Names of Communities Contest
As part of our efforts to encourage active participation and foster a sense of friendly competition within the community, we are excited to announce the “Gurene Names and Names of Communities Contest“. This contest runs from August 1 to August 30, 2023. Community members are encouraged to contribute articles and Wikidata items related to Gurene names and communities. Top contributors will be given an award as a token of appreciation for their dedication and hard work.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Dagbani Wikimedians User Group for providing the logistics and to all the participants who dedicated their time and effort to attend the workshop. Your enthusiasm and eagerness to learn have made this event a resounding success. We also thank the organisers and facilitators who meticulously planned and executed the training, ensuring its effectiveness.
The Gurene Wikimedia Community is committed to continuous growth and positive impact. We urge all members to make the most of the knowledge from the workshop, actively contribute to Gurene Wikipedia, and preserve our cultural heritage through Wikidata.
