Series by the Wikimedia Foundation African Employee Resource Group

In 2021, the Wikimedia Foundation established its first ever African Employee Resource Group bringing together the 40+ staff who are based in the continent. Aside from advocating for staff and celebrating the cultures they are connected to, one of the express aims of the group is to help the Foundation achieve its vision of being the sum of all knowledge for all people by deepening connections with our movement partners across the continent and creating spaces for strategic planning and conversations about Africa by Africans.

With this aim in mind, we are pleased to launch the African Conversations series, which aims to educate, engage with and empower our African communities through moderated dialogues featuring voices of the movement and Foundation staff on African matters. Our first event will be hosted on 30 August 2023 at 1500 – 1600 UTC. The focus for this discussion is inspired by this year’s Africa Day theme which is on: Opportunities through Challenges.

For years, our vision statement has been asking people to imagine how the world would change if every human being actually had access to the sum of all knowledge. For the African movement & Foundation there are specific talking points to consider, debate and discuss – and together, act on.

We are joined by four panelists for this inaugural discussion. Click on the links below to learn more about them!

Let’s have the conversation. Lets listen, learn and then decide together how to lead initiatives or bolster work already being done to make this overarching vision – a reality!
