As a Wikimedian, I discovered a significant landmark in Lagos – Iju Ishaga Memorial Arcade. This building honours the victims of the Dana Air crash on June 3rd, 2012, which occurred in Lagos, Nigeria.
On June 8th, 2024, I felt privileged to capture and share this memorial building on Wikimedia commons. I was in Lagos for a wedding, and the building happened to be located behind the residence where I was staying. I didn’t expect to find such a place, but it shows that we can discover significant places when we least expect them.
Taking pictures of notable places like this helps us learn from the past events in Nigeria. When we share these pictures on Wikimedia commons, others can learn too. This helps us understand the world better and feel connected to each other.
I want to encourage fellow Wikimedians to look for significant places around them and share on the wikimedia platforms. Let’s work together to share knowledge and make history come alive. Every place has a story, and by sharing these stories, we can inspire others to do the same.
