♻️ The Wikidata Infobox on Commons

18 March 2022 @ 15:00 15:50 UTC

♻️ This event is part of the Wikidata Data Reuse Days 2022.

Wikidata is used in nearly 4 million categories on Wikimedia Commons to display an Infobox that provides context about the category contents. Thanks to Wikidata, the Infobox is fully multilingual, helping non-English speakers to navigate Commons. I will talk about how the Infobox came about and the challenges that have been encountered so far. I will also discuss some of the challenges that haven’t yet been solved, and why. Finally, I will describe a bit about how it is currently coded (using Module:WikidataIB – and how you can use this on your wikis), and what might change with it over the next year – before we go into open discussion.
