This year’s legal fellow panel, organized by summer legal fellows at the Wikimedia Foundation, explores recent developments in social media law that have the potential to impact the ability of online platforms to regulate user content online. While freedom of expression currently protects the ability of online platforms to allow and remove content, recent laws in Texas and Florida have set up a legal battle over whether online platforms should be treated more like airlines and railroads, “common carriers” required to host nearly any speech posted by users.
